Growing New Potential Counseling provides virtual individual counseling services to adults ages 17 years of age plus.

Inevitably, we all will go through life and experience challenges, pain, and negative emotions. No matter if you are experiencing difficulties with finding work/life balance,adjusting to life transitions, having relational and/or interpersonal issues, difficulty with managing stress, self-esteem and confidence, and overcoming trauma, I am here to help. I specialize in working with individuals with depression, anxiety, adjustment, and career and professional challenges.

MY APPROACH
Here at Growing New Potential Counseling, I facilitate a space for you to take life’s predictable and unpredictable challenges and cultivate room for you to bloom.
My approach encompasses:
-Creating a confidential and safe space for expression and to be heard.
-Developing strong individual rapport/relationship
-Facilitating the process of your awareness and reflective senses
-Strength-based through validation, encouragement, and empowerment
While each session will be facilitated on an individual basis, I utilize the following therapeutic approaches:
-Person Centered Therapy
-Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)
-Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
-Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)

How long are therapy sessions and for how long should I attend therapy?Therapy sessions are 50 minute sessions with a frequency that could vary between weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly sessions. The average amount of time spent in therapy could range from a couple of months to several years. This length of time is contingent upon your treatment goals and collaborating with your therapist.

I live in another state outside of Maryland, will I still be able to receive therapeutic services with Growing New Potential Counseling?Yes. In addition to serving clients who reside in Maryland, Growing New Potential Counseling is able to currently serve clients who reside in Virginia. If you are looking for a therapist and you live outside of Maryland and Virginia, please look into the following online directories: Therapy for Black Girls and Psychology Today. You will be able to enter your location and other specifiers (ie. gender, race, insurance) in order to get a list of qualified mental health professionals. Additionally, you can call your insurance company in order to get a list of providers in your area.

Are all of the sessions virtual?Yes, at this time. All sessions will be virtual and you will be sent information on how to access your sessions in a private, safe, and confidential manner.

Do you accept insurance? What are the rates for sessions?Yes, I accept insurance. I currently accept BlueCross BlueShield (BCBS), CIGNA, United HealthCare, and Compsych (EAP). My counseling rate for an individual therapy session (50 minutes) is $150. You have the option of using your insurance to cover a percentage of your sessions or you have the option to pay for sessions fully out of pocket (private pay).

How can I pay for therapy sessions?Accepted methods of paying for therapy sessions are debit cards, HSA debit cards, and credit cards.

What can I expect out of my first therapy session?Prior to your first session you will be sent an intake packet for completion and your session will be scheduled. The first session, which is known as the intake session, will be 50 minutes. During this first session, you will receive introductions, rules, and expectations regarding therapy. Additionally, this will be the time for you and the therapist to talk openly about your reason for seeking therapy. The therapist will ask questions regarding your paperwork and you will also have the opportunity to ask questions, address concerns and express other important things that you feel are important to therapy and the therapeutic relationship.

What is your style of therapy?I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC). I specialize in working with teens and adults who have depression and anxiety, interpersonal issues, relationship issues, and issues with transitioning and adjusting. My therapeutic approach is one that encompasses building strong rapport with clients, active listening, empowerment, and encouragement. I utilize the following modalities in the therapy room, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR). I am an interactive therapist, often incorporating music, film, books, quotes, and other resources.
